La Cañada de la Virgen

Empezamos el día con un desayuno saludable y delicioso.  Después salimos de Casa Carmen con nuestras mochilas y botellas de agua.  Los autobuses nos tomaron a las afueras de San Miguel de Allende, y desde allí, caminamos tres kilómetros a las pirámides de La Cañada de la Virgen.  Nuestro guía nos contó cuentos de los Maya participando en sacrificios de seres humanos y animales.  Había un hombre que fue sacrificado cuando tenía 52 años, y se cree que los Maya no querían que nadie viviera después de los 52 años por sus creencias religiosas. También, muchos de los edificios, incluyendo las las pirámides, fueron construidas para copiar el terreno de sus alrededores. 



Después de regresar de las pirámides, nosotros jugamos al fútbol en el parque con chicos y chicas san miguelenses.  Terminamos el día con una visita a la heladería.

We started off the day with a healthy and delicious breakfast.  Then, we set off for the day with our backpacks and bottles of water filled. The tour buses took us to the outskirts of San Miguel, and from there we walked three kilometers to La Cañada de la Virgen pyramids.  

Our tour guide recounted stories of ancient Mayan people who participated in human and animal sacrifices. There was a man who was killed when he was 52 years old, and it is believed that the Mayan people did not want anyone to live past the age of 52 due to religious beliefs. Also, many of the buildings, including the pyramids, were built to mimic the surrounding land.  After we returned from the pyramids, we played soccer in the park with the local boys and girls.  We finished off the day with a trip to the ice-cream shop.
